CONGREGATIONAL/LOCAL NEWS

After a hiatus of more than two years forced by the pandemic,      (Elgin, Ill.) resumed staging its popular coffeehouses, beginning with an unorthodox evening picnic on the lawn of the Church of the Brethren General Offices on Sept. 25. The sunset concert featured singer/songwriter Jonathan Shively, a member of Highland Avenue, who serves as choir director for the congregation. Other musicians from the congregation took turns at the mic, as well. With a history that stretches back almost 40 years, the Highland Avenue coffeehouse is usually located in the congregation’s fellowship hall but enjoyed a beautiful evening for this outdoor venture. Members of the community and surrounding congregations are also invited to participate in the events. [from Jim Lehman]
