Freeport will hold its annual pork chop drive-through meal on Sunday, Sept. 27, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Just enter and exit the church driveway at 777 W. Pleasant St. (corner of S. West Avenue). Get a boneless grilled pork chop, cheesy hashbrowns, green beans, roll, choice of apple pie bar or pumpkin bar with cream cheese icing, and plastic cutlery for $10. Then you can take your meals home or to the local park. It's a home-cooked meal at fast food speed!

Freeport was also among congregations to receive funds from the latest Brethren Faith in Action Fund distributions. A total of $2,416.67 will support creation of a permanent memorial honoring victims of all forms of violence. On the International Day of Peace in 2024 and 2025, the church planted peace doves on its lawn with pictures and names of victims of gun violence in the community since 2015. The permanent memorial for victims of violence will include a wall with aluminum plates printed with the names, pictures, and dates for each victim, protected with plexiglass, along with a bench, landscaping, and brochure boxes to hold materials giving information about assistance for domestic abuse victims and other resources to avoid further violence.

The next group of donations will be assembled Sept. 28.
